Cathedral

Musical Director: Adrian Partington
Soprano: Hannah Grove Atherton
Tenor: Paul Charles Clarke
Bass: Richard Walshe
Orchestra: Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra

Gloucester Choral Society will be joined by the Bristol Choral Society to perform two contrasting monuments of nineteenth Century French music.
The beautiful and unforgettable Requiem of Fauré will be performed in its full “symphonic” version. The more frequently-performed original version is for chamber ensemble, which, whilst beautiful, lacks the colour and warmth of the version to be heard at this concert.
At the sound of the majestic opening chords of Berlioz’s Te Deum, any listener will understand that he or she is present at a performance of a musical epic of almost unparalled power. Conceived on a vast scale, it is written for two adult choruses, a children’s choir and a huge orchestra. It is an awe-inspiring, astonishing work; as intense a portrayal of the wonderful text of the Te Deum as has ever been written.
