The best preserved medieval Dominican priory in Britain, built in the 13th century on the site of Gloucester's Norman castle. The tour visits the church, dormitory, and the school or scriptorium where the friars were trained for their preaching mission. The original study cells or carrells are housed in the oldest surviviing library building in the country. The priory was converted into a private mansion house and cloth making factory by Sir Thomas Bell in the 16th century and visitors will see his banqueting hall and kitchen.
Tickets are purchased on the day from Blackfriars. Adults £3.50, English Heritage members pay £3.00 and children can see the beautiful building for free.
