Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone (2001), The Chamber of Secrets (2002), The Half Blood Prince (2009)
The Cathedrals cloisters were transformed into the hallowed corridors of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry attracting Potter fans, both young and old, from all over the world.

Dr Who (2008 TV Episode)
The Tardis and David Tennant arrived in the City as Gloucester Cathedral grounds were used as the filming location for Doctor Who's 2008 Christmas Special - The Next Doctor.

Terry Pratchett’s The Colour of Magic (2006 TV Movie)
Gloucester’s beautifully restored Victorian warehouses at the docks provide the backdrop for the docks of Ankh Morpork in Terry Pratchett’s The Colour of Magic, a feature-length adaptation of the first Discworld novel, starring David Jason, Sean Astin and Tim Curry.

The Onedin Line (1971 TV Series)
This sweeping, epic drama series charts the fortunes of the fictional Onedin family and their shipping empire. Gloucester’s Victorian docks were again the star of the show, this time standing in for Liverpool’s docks circa 1860s.

Vanity Fair (1998 TV Miniseries)
Adapted from William Makepeace Thackeray’s novel by Andrew Davies, this Victorian era satire on British society again makes use of Gloucester’s riches from that era. This 1998 mini-series was nominated for several BAFTAs including the Best Drama Serial award.

Maurice (1987)
A Merchant-Ivory film adaptation of the E.M. Forster novel starring James Wilby, Rupert Graves and Hugh Grant.

Martin Chuzzlewitt (1994 TV Miniseries)
Another BBC Victorian adaptation of Charles Dicken’s novel that stars Paul Scofeld, Tom Wilkinson and Keith Allen.

Amazing Grace (2006)
The story of William Wilberforce and the Abolitionists movement to end the transatlantic slave trade. Starring Ioan Gruffudd, Albert Finney and Michael Gambon.
