The Magnificent Severn – Three days celebrating the Severn Bore
September 10th, 11th and 12th, Linton Farm, Highnam, Gloucester GL2 8DF

The Severn Bore and the River Severn is one of the Gloucestershire’s and the UK’s unsung wonders. The Magnificent Severn event sets out to change this by bringing all that is wonderful about the river to a beautiful river side meadow and entertaining and informing people. You will be able to see the last ‘4 star’ bore of the year and another three opportunites to see the unique wave come crashing by over the weekend.

Come along and discover the culture, heritage and ecology of the Magnificent Severn.

The event
The site will be open from Friday afternoon through to Sunday afternoon. The days will be dedicated to showing the wonders of the Severn with lots of opportunities to get involved, listen to talks, meet the salmon fishermen, the elver men and of course the renown bore surfers.

An Amazonian on the Severn
Surfers from the Severn have traveled around the world to surf the biggest bores of the fearsome ‘Pororoca’ in the Amazon and the mighty ‘Black Dragon’ in China. The Guinness World record holder, Segio Laus, will be joining us from the Amazon to surf, talk of his travels and the people and life of the Amazon.

Activities for all
We have lots of things to amuse and delight children and families including traditional fun like ‘apple bobbing’, a chance to press your own apple juice and for the grown ups perry and cider tasting session and even tips on making cider. Ecologists will lead walks along the banks to show the wealth of the wildlife of the fertile Severn. Specialists will be helping you discover the life in the river by plunging sample nets into the tide and there will be bat walks in the evenings to listen and see the amazing water bats called Daubenton’s bats.

The night bore and dancing
As night falls, you’ll see the Bore crash by with the adventurous and experienced bore surfers dancing across the wave as they enjoy a night bore. Entertainment from local bands will warm the dark and we aim to keep you dancing until 2am and we have a licensed bar run by Severn Cider that will be selling there own produce and local beers. There will be camping on site.

The event is in a meadow next to the river so will be challenging for wheel chair users and do bring a torch or two!

Around the world other countries celebrate their bores, come and make ours memorable and enjoy the natural spectacle of our county.

Weekend tickets include camping and are £15, day tickets also available.
