St Matthew's Passion at Gloucester Cathedral

Gloucester Choral Society presents a performance of J S Bach's St Matthew Passion on Saturday 20 March starting at 5.30pm.
The piece is widely regarded as one of the masterpieces of classical sacred music. It sets Chapters 26 and 27 of the Gospel of Matthew to music, which tells the story of the Passion and death of Jesus Christ.
The Corelli Orchestra and soloists James Gilchrist (Evangelist), Matthew Hargreaves (Christus), Claire Wild (soprano), Frances Bourne (mezzo soprano), Ashley Catling (tenor) and Robert Poulton (bass), will join Gloucester Choral Society for the concert conducted by Adrian Partington.
The marathon performance lasts over four hours, including an interval of an hour and 15 minutes. A simple interval supper to be served in the Parliament Suite is available via the Cathedral Coffee Shop costing £7.50 per head. Suppers must be booked in advance.
