The Futureheads at Gloucester Guildhall
12th February 2010
Take four discerning "Kids For Today" from Sunderland, fast tuneful music with intricate harmonies to make the Beach Boys weep and a band that veer sharply between resolutely heartfelt and edgy conviction whilst never pandering to the cliches of most "Art House" punk outfits.
And what do you have?
The Futureheads began their embryonic rise three years ago in 1999 when Barry Hyde (Guitars, Vocals) and Peter Brewis (Drums, Vocals) met David Craig (Bass, Vocals) and Ross Millard (Guitars, Vocals) at a youth Project in the back streets of Sunderland in the North-East.
Barry and Peter were, at the time, teaching music at the project while David and Ross were in another local band.
The three members forged a friendship and decided to start a band that would buck the trend of indie-pop music that was prevalent during the twighlight of the painfully trite Brit-pop phase.
Their philosophy: play fast, write quick interesting songs and with all four singing. With absolutely no breaks whatsoever......
