Tewkesbury lies at the heart of the Severn Vale, where the River Severn meets the Avon. This delightful medieval town is steeped in history but tourism in Tewkesbury is also thriving. With its narrow alleyways, black and white timber framed buildings and the beautiful 12th century abbey, which dominates the town. Annual events include the Food and Drink Festival and the Spring Arts Festival.
The Old Hat Shop is a new interpretation centre recommended for visitors to the town.
There were floods in July 2007, which brought the town to national attention with inspiring views of the ancient Abbey dominating the landscape. In terms of tourism Tewkesbury hotel owners say that the worldwide use of the image has made the Abbey a 'must see' for visitors to Tewkesbury and the area.
