Gloucester Cathedral Flower Festival sneak preview
Gloucester Cathedral Flower Festival sneak preview
26th August 2010
Canny flower-lovers can have a sneak preview of the centre-piece of
Gloucester Cathedral's Flower Festival set for July next year. But they
will have to be quick, as the display will only be on view over the Bank
Holiday weekend.
A team from the Cathedral's Flower Guild has designed a floral carpet,
14ft wide by 96ft long, to be laid in the Nave during the Festival. It
will be the longest carpet to be seen in any of the 42 Cathedrals of
England.
In the Lady Chapel this week, the design team is working on a section of
the carpet to check all the dimensions and make sure the design works
well.
Visitors to the Cathedral this Bank Holiday weekend are free to watch
the work in progress. The flower carpet will be removed on Tuesday 31st
August.
The Glorious Gloucestershire Flower Festival will take place from 13 to
16 July 2011. Parishes from the diocese of Gloucester will provide many
of the arrangements and C of E Primary Schools in the diocese will work
together to create a display in the West End of the Cathedral. There
will also be stalls, talks, demonstrations and music.
Tickets will be on sale from March 2011. To join a list for priority
booking for groups prior to the release of tickets, contact 01452 528095
or email reception@gloucestercathedral.org.uk
