Swinging into Summer at Hillfield Gardens

Swinging into Summer at Hillfield Gardens

1st August 2010

One of Gloucester’s finest ‘hidden gems’ will be swinging to the classic Big Band sound with a live concert this Friday (30th July).

The beautiful Hillfield Gardens, off London Road, will host the Gloucestershire Big Band , a live 18 piece big band romping through 1940s classics from the likes of Glen Miller, Count Basie and many more, all conducted by renowned music maestro Andy Loveridge.

The annual event, dubbed ‘Hillfield Swings’, is organised by the Friends of Hillfield Gardens and marketing gloucester ltd and helps to raise funds for the upkeep of the gardens each year.

Spokeswoman Sam Williams of the FOHG said: “We’ve got such beautiful gardens here, which are well used by residents close by, and the Hillfield Swings event shows off the gardens, helps to raise money to look after and improve them and is also a fantastic live event in itself.”

“People are so used to seeing Big Bands on TV now thanks to shows such as the X Factor, but there’s nothing like seeing the real thing live, especially outdoors in the summertime”, she added.

Tickets for the event, priced £5 for adults (kids go free) are available in person from Gloucester Guildhall and Tourist Information Centre, by calling 01452 503050 or on the door on the night. Audience members must bring their own picnic rugs/seating, and gates open at 6pm, with the performance starting at 7pm.
