Gloucester Gets the Blues!

Gloucester Gets the Blues!

22nd July 2010

Get ready for nine days of rocking rhythm and blue, featuring an amazing line-up of local talent plus national and international acts spread across stages, pubs and bars in the city, as the Gloucester Rhythm and Blues Festival celebrates its tenth birthday.

Artists performing include blues harmonica legend Paul Lamb and the Kingsnakes, Sons of the Delta, the Steve Browning Band, Bridget and the Big Girls Blues, Worried Men, Steve Kent, Dan James Duo, Cool Hand, The Suspects, Muleskinner, D B Smith Band, Oliver Darling and more.

The festival kicks off in style with blues harmonica heavyweights Paul Lamb and the Kingsnakes in Gloucester Park at 7pm this Saturday (July 24th) as part of the ‘Music in the Park’ free music festival. Hailed by aficionados and the music press around the world as Europe’s foremost blues harmonica exponent, Paul Lamb has recently been inducted into the British Blues Awards Hall Of Fame.

The programme then continues until August 1st, with shows taking place at the European Blues Association in Gloucester Library, Cafe Rene, The Pig Inn the City and the Cross Keys Inn.

In addition, the European Blues Association will be hosting music workshops, jamming sessions and exhibiting its unique blues archive, a living testament to the past and present history of African American music from all across the globe.

Festival programmer Tim Porter said: “Gloucester has a long a rich association with blues music, and the festival is a highlight in the European blues calendar and brings visitors to the city from all across the UK and beyond to enjoy great live bands and performers and to soak up the festival’s warm and welcoming atmosphere.”
