Free Playtime in the Gloucester Park!

21st July 2010

It’ll be playtime all the way in Gloucester Park this Sunday (25th July), as the venue hosts a huge free family fun day to kick off the summer holidays in style.

The event, the biggest of its kind in the south west, will run from 12noon until 5pm and will feature a great mix of live shows and street acts, hands on arts and crafts, painting wall and clay modelling, sports challenges and street games, farm animals, live music, real beach with sandcastle competitions and donkeys and lots more.

A big highlight of the day will be a free, hour long performance of an award-winning street show, The Station, at 3pm. Performed by the internationally acclaimed Bash Street Theatre Company, the show is an action-packed silent comedy filled with thrills, spills, stunts and lots of laughs for all ages.

The event will also provide the first opportunity to show off the park’s fantastic new bandstand, with the official opening of the new structure at 1pm by the Mayor of Gloucester, Councillor Janet Lugg, followed by a performance from the Nailsworth Silver Band.

Mhairi Smith of marketing gloucester ltd, the company organising Summer in Gloucester events on behalf of Gloucester City Council, said: “The family fun day is a really popular event, because there are so many different things for youngsters and grown-ups to enjoy and virtually everything is free, which really helps families and carers, especially at the start of the holidays when people will be looking for affordable days out.”
