Hit the Beach in Gloucester Park!
Hit the Beach in Gloucester Park!
20th July 2010
A little bit of the seaside comes to Gloucester this week, as a free beach attraction opens in the city park.
Returning after a hugely popular first outing last year, the beach will be open for eight days, from Friday 23rd – Friday 30th July, and is completely free for all visitors. After an official opening by the Sheriff and Deputy Mayor of Gloucester Councillor Geraldine Gillespie at 12noon on the first Friday, youngsters will be welcome to hit the sand and have fun from 12noon – 5pm each day.
The beach will be located close to the play fountains and will feature sandcastle competitions, deckchairs and donkey rides, with the Guildhall’s pavement cafe ‘The Place’ coming along too to offer up hot and cold drinks and snacks.
Spokesperson Mhairi Smith said: “The beach was really busy with families last year, and lots of people have been asking for it to come back again for 2010, so we’re thrilled to be able to offer up this free attraction again for everyone to enjoy.”
The beach is just one of a series of great summer events in Gloucester. Other attractions include a free music festival featuring ska legends The Beat (July 24), family fun day (July 25), massive fireworks display (July 31), Rhythm and Blues Festival (July 24 – Aug 2) and an open air screening of Mamma Mia at Llanthony Priory (Aug 6).
