60th Anniversary of the Battle of Imjin River
60th Anniversary of the Battle of Imjin River
2nd July 2010
"Next year is the 60th Anniversary of the Battle of Imjin River where in
April 1951, The Gloucestershire Regiment faced and stood firm against
elements of two Chinese armies. Their action delayed the Chinese
advance and allowed time for the Allies to regroup. This battle was a
turning point and the result is the industrial and financial powerhouse
that is South Korea today" said George Streatfeild, Curator of the
Museum
"We are lucky enough to be joined by Andrew Salmon, Author of "To The
Last Round". He is also a Seoul based reporter and covers the Koreas
for CNN, Forbes, The South China Morning Post, The Times and the
Washington Times. He will be giving a presentation titled "The Korean
War, then & now" at The Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum in Gloucester Docks on 9th July at 12.30. Tickets cost £15 and are available from the Museum
Also present at the presentation will be a number of Korean Veterans, many of whom are well into their 70's but remember some rather too vividly the battle and their experiences as Prisoners of War.
This event launches Imjin 60, the exhibition which will commemorate the action, and which will open next spring.
The designers, RWDP Limited, who were responsible for the new award winning, Parachute Regimental Museum at Duxford, will be available to answer questions.
