Get ready for Summer in Gloucester's Carnival this weekend!
13th July 2010
Gloucester’s historic carnival procession makes a welcome return to the city this weekend (Saturday 17th July) for its 74th year.
The parade will see more than 300 people bring brightly coloured floats, carnival creations, fancy dress and music and dance performances to Gloucester Park, with an audience of thousands expected to line the carnival route.
The event, which is sponsored by Gloucester City Homes, will also feature live music, walkabout performers, food and drink, fairground rides, a dazzling multicoloured inflatable walk-through experience ‘Colourscape’ and lots more in the Park.
This year’s carnival will follow a shorter route than in previous years due to the ongoing linkages works at Kimbrose Triangle. The route will be: RIGHT from Gloucester Park into Park Road; LEFT into Trier Way; LEFT into Eastgate Street; LEFT into Brunswick Road; LEFT into Spa Road and back into the Park.
Graham Walker, Chief Executive of marketing gloucester ltd, the company organising the carnival on behalf of Gloucester City Council, said: “It’s a real privilege for us to help organise the carnival each year. The event truly belongs to the people of city, it’s always great fun and it’s rewarding to know that we’re helping to uphold such a long-standing tradition.”
The line up will be as follows:
1pm - 2pm: Gospel Choir
2pm - 3.30pm: Carnival Entries Peforming + Judging Ceremony
3.30pm - 4.30pm: Carnival Procession (no performers onstage)
4.30pm - 5.15pm: Carnival Collective Set 1
5.15pm - 6.15pm: Global Dances
6.15pm - 7pm: Carnival Collective Set 2
There are still plenty more events planned for the City of Gloucester this summer, don't forget to check www.thecityofgloucester.co.uk/summer for a full list of what is occuring.
