Gloucester Carnival – Not long To Go
Gloucester Carnival – Not long To Go
22nd June 2010
Gloucester’s traditional Carnival Procession is just under a month away – and organisers are putting a call out for new faces to join the parade.
The historic procession, which will take place on Saturday 17th July, has been a part of city life for the past 74 years, and organisers are hoping that more people than ever will choose to get involved and help to make the event a memorable community celebration for 2010.
The event will feature live music, walkabout performers, food and drink, fairground rides, a dazzling multicoloured inflatable walk-through attraction ‘Colourscape’ and lots more in Gloucester Park.
Rather than taking its usual route in the city centre, this summer’s parade will travel a shorter circuit due to linkage works taking place around Kimbrose Triangle. The parade will leave the park and turn into Park Road, Trier Way, Eastgate Street, Brunswick Road and Spa Road, before returning to its start point.
Andrew Mitchell-Stead of marketing gloucester ltd, the company organising the carnival on behalf of Gloucester City Council, said: “Thousands of people watch the carnival from the sidelines each year, so we’re really pushing for more of those spectators to dress up and really become part of the parade in 2010. The fact that we’ve got a shorter route this year will make it easier for youngsters or those with limited mobility to join in too.”
“In previous years we’ve also charged city businesses a small fee to take part, but we’ve decided to drop that fee this year and are openly encouraging shops, offices, pubs, clubs and tourist attractions to get creative and join the party – but with only a month to go, they need to get their entry forms in and their thinking caps on!”
