Gloucester Docks Steam Powered Duck Racing this August!
Gloucester Docks Steam Powered Duck Racing this August!
9th April 2010
The Friends of the Waterways Museum are bringing Plastic Duck Racing to Gloucester Docks on the August Bank Holiday (Monday 30th August).
This isn't a traditional duck race, the Severn is too fast and all the ducks would escape, the Canal is still water and would just blow about in the wind! So they plan to use the museum's dredger, SND No 4.
Numbered Ducks will be placed in a mud bucket, at water level and then the bucket chain will be run to pour the Ducks down the mud chute on to a target. The Ducks nearest the centre of the target will be the winners. Tickets for the event will be £1 and available from the museum.
The races are planned to be a spectacle with cascading Ducks, clanking of the bucket and much hooting of the steam whistle. The whistle will be heard all over Gloucester!
If you are a local business and would like to get involved the Friends of the Waterways Museum are looking for sponsorship and support. For further details contact Richard Trelfa on rjtrelfa@talktalk.net
