Tooth and Claw photography exhibition at Gloucester City Museum

29th April 2010

2010 has been declared the International Year of Biodiversity (IYB) by the United Nations, and Gloucester Museums Service is one of more than 200 organisations to sign up as IYB-UK partners, along with the Natural History Museum, the RSPB, and the Mammal Society.

The next exhibition 'Tooth and Claw' at Gloucester City Museum supports this worthwhile cause and the museums are hosting several events inconjunction with this to support the International Year of Biodiversity.

Tooth and Claw (photographic exhibition) at Gloucester City Museum

Tooth and Claw Photographic exhibition at Gloucester City Museum

Tooth & Claw is a ground-breaking exhibition and education initiative that explores and illustrates how modern Britain really feels about its predators and the issues that surround them. Predators impact on us in a variety of ways and we find ourselves making value-judgements about whether a particular predator is a 'good'  or a 'bad' animal. As many predators claw their way back into our lives, our feelings towards them reflect our changing relationship with nature.

In providing a visually spectacular and thought-provoking insight into our relationship alongside predators, professional nature photographers Peter Cairns and Mark Hamblin inspire visitors to think about predators in new ways and inspire a stronger connection with the natural world.
The exhibition runs from the 1st May - 5th June and is free.  Gloucester City Museum and Art Gallery is situated on Brunswick Road next to the Library.

Evening Chorus with Gloucester Folk Museum

To help celebrate 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity Gloucester Folk Museum would like you to join them for a walk to hear evening bird song. Evening song may not have the same fame as the Dawn Chorus but it is no less beautiful and at a more civilised time to boot! We will be walking from the Folk Museum to Alney Island listening to the finest songs of nature on route. The walk is gentle, so bring your whole family and binoculars if you have them. Please wear suitable footwear though and remember the temperature can drop in an evening. All children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. No dogs, apart from guide dogs.

Saturday 1st May,  Meet at the Folk Museum for refreshments from 5.30pm. Leave at 6pm, return to Folk Museum 8pm approximately.

Pre-booking essential by 5pm on Thursday 29th - telephone 01452 396868 to book your space
