Over Easter in Gloucester there are a mountain of activities for all ages and tastes varying from music performances to creating your own flowers, not forgetting Easter egg hunts and Easter services. There are various events to keep children entertained over the holidays and special activities for adults and families. Why not treat yourself to a lunchtime cruise or enjoy various free craft days.

Music/Services


Gloucester Cathedral
has been chosen as one of the destinations for The RAF in Concert Cathedral Tour 2010 on Friday 16th April at 7.30pm. The event “A Time to Reflect”, features the Band of the Royal Air Force College, with a programme of rousing classics and favourites performed by the fantastic musicians of the Royal Air Force. Ticketed event - £10 - £15.


The Cathedral is also hosting a recital by Mark Latimer on the piano on Saturday 17th April. “Darkness into Light” is a ticketed event - £6.


Special services for Easter will also be held at the Cathedral. On Friday 2nd April at 10am the Liturgy of Good Friday will occur and at 12pm the Three Hours Devotion. Also the Liturgy of Easter Eve on Saturday 3rd April at 8.30pm sung by the Cathedral Choir. Lastly, the Sung Eucharist for Easter Day will be held on Sunday 4th April at 10.45am.

 

Arts and Crafts


Gloucester Folk Museum
have various free crafty children events over the Easter period running from 11am – 3pm. On Saturday 3rd April until Wednesday 7th April there is the option to make a keepsake box to keep your favourite finds from Easter, or from Thursday 8th April until Saturday 10th April design and make a jumping frog and test how far it jumps. The focus is on trains on Tuesday 13th April and Wednesday 14th April with the chance to make a travel game to play on a train and from Thursday 15th April until Saturday 17th April the topic is wagons, with the chance to make your very own rolling wagon.


Gloucester City Museum
are also holding various free crafty sessions for children over the Easter Holidays running from 10.30am – 4.30pm. On Saturday 3rd April children have the opportunity to create an Easter card or from Tuesday 6th April until Thursday 8th April they can make a decorate an Easter basket. From Friday 9th April until Tuesday 13th April there is the chance to make tissue flowers and from Wednesday 14th April until Friday 16th April, children can make a dragon puppet ready for St Georges Day.


The National Waterways Museum
are holding a Children’s Easter Egg Painting Competition. Prizes will be awarded for various age groups 3-5 years, 6-8 years and 9-11 years and the competition will be judged by the Mayor of Gloucester.


Nature in Art
are also hosting various children’s arts and crafts session running from 10am – 5pm.  On Tuesday 6th April there is the chance to decorate ceramic coasters where as on Wednesday 7th April you have the opportunity to personalise your very own photo album with various materials. On Thursday 8th April there is a chance to decorate a piggy bank or create a collage using different methods on Friday 9th April. All of these sessions cost £5 for children.


There will be a range of activities to keep children entertained at the indoor market in the Eastgate Shopping Mall on Friday 2nd April and Saturday 3rd April. Free workshops to make bunny ears, Easter headbands, bonnets and other seasonal crafts will be running. There will also be a free Easter egg hunt.

 

Cruises


English Holiday Cruises
are hosting several events and cruises on the Easter weekend. On Saturday 3rd April and Sunday 4th April starting from 11am enjoy a rooftop lunchtime BBQ, cream teas and a licensed bar with the view of the docks on the Oliver Cromwell or 2 cruises onboard the Edward Elgar. On Saturday 3rd April a delicious all you can eat buffet lunch and four hour cruise along the canal or a traditional Sunday lunch on Sunday 4th April along with the four hour cruise. £24 per person.


The National Waterways Museum
are offering an Easter Tea Cruise from 3pm- 5pm on Sunday 4th April. All aboard the King Arthur for a light cruise and competition to spot the bunnies on route.

 

Chocolate treats


Throughout the Easter holidays from Friday 2nd April until Sunday 18th April Clearwell Caves are hosting their very own Easter Egg Hunt. Spot the eggs within the caverns, solve the clues and enter the draw to win an Easter prize. 10am – 5pm. Adults £5.80, Children (5-16): £3.80 + £1.20 per competition sheet and chocolate treat.


Nature in Art
are holding an Easter Rabbit Candy Cone and Egg Hunt on Saturday 3rd April from 10am – 5pm. Use various materials to create a rabbit candy cone. Then take part in the Easter Egg quiz to win some chocolate which can be taken home in your newly made cone. Adults: £4.75, Children (8-16): £4.25, Under 8’s FREE.


Gloucester Quays
are holding their Chocolate Heaven event on Saturday 3rd April from 11am – 4pm. Indulge with chocolate tasting, painting with chocolate and a chocolate workshop. There will also be the chance to win Easter eggs and special offers will be running throughout.

 

Something different


Gloucester Rugby Club
are offering a great offer for children to the Gloucester v Saracens Game on Saturday 3rd April. The Kid for a Quid event allows any child under 15 to watch this Guinness Premiership match for only a pound.


On Sunday 4th April, Thursday 8th April and Saturday 17th April at 2pm, Clearwell Caves are giving people the opportunity to “Walk in the Miners footsteps”. This is a chance to visit deep levels of Clearwell Caves which are not normally seen. It is a caving activity with adventure included and no experience is necessary. Adults: £15, Children (7-17): £10.


Battlesports Gloucester are holding an Easter Holiday Combat Mission for familes on Tuesday 6th and 13th April and Thursday 8th and 15th April. Experience outdoor laser combat missions on a multi acre battlefield with woodland. Refreshments are available or alternatively bring a picnic. 2 hour session: £15, 1 hour session £10.


On Saturday 3rd April at the New Inn, a special Gloucester Ghost Walk Spooky Easter Egg hunt will take place from 3pm until 6pm. There will be a tour of the rooms where no one has ventured before and the chance to find the eggs and the bones whilst listening to great ghost stories. Light refreshments are included as well as children's games and prizes to be won. Family of 4: £10, Individual ticket: £8.


Gloucester Quays have visitors from Peppa Pig and George on Wednesday 14th April. From 11am at various intervals, the two characters will make personal appearances to entertain and amuse the children.
