THE NEW YEAR’S EVE BIG LAUGH
THE NEW YEAR’S EVE BIG LAUGH
6th December 2010
Gloucester Guildhall is the only place to be on New Year’s Eve, and this year it’s going to be better than ever!
As always, we’re bringing you a sumptuous trio of top comedians, the Big Ben countdown on the big screen (often accompanied by a rousing, but not compulsory, chant of Auld Lang Syne) and a disco until the early hours that is guaranteed to get you dancing, but this year we’re trying something a bit different to the usual buffet. We’re going to be laying on a lavish banquet, with mouth-watering roasted meats (as well as a delicious vegetarian alternative), minted new potatoes, an impressive range of salads that promise much more than a couple of soggy bits of lettuce, a medley of breads and, of course, a tempting selection of traditional English deserts to leave you feeling thoroughly spoiled.
And that’s just the food! Entertaining you throughout the evening will be Simon Clayton, whose subject matter frequently covers the issues of being fat, mixed race, married and balding, because this is what he knows, Glaswegian Geoff Boyz, who does a mean impression of Robert De Niro, and headliner Mark Olver.
Best mates with Russell Howard and Jon Richardson, Bristol-based Olver has many strings to his bow. As well as being a well-known face on the comedy circuit, his TV credits include 8 out of 10 Cats and Kings of Comedy. He is a regular at the Edinburgh Festival, and in July 2008 he walked 500 miles from Bristol to Edinburgh, which provided material for his Ramble On show. He supported Russell Howard on his Dingledodies tour and had a bit part in the third series of Skins, but is probably most notorious for being the comic who once slipped on stage, dislocating his knee and breaking his ankle, and continued to deliver his set from the floor, slipping in and out of consciousness, until the paramedics arrived and carted him off in an ambulance. Although this gave him considerable press coverage, these days he tends to do fewer cartwheels on stage. Delighting audiences all over the country with his feel-good performances he is hard to miss and must be seen.
With all this and a complimentary glass of bubbly on arrival, this New Year at Gloucester Guildhall is all set to be the best yet, and is guaranteed to be a sell-out – get your tickets while you can!
