On the hill a mile or so north of Stow, with extensive views over the Evenlode Valley. In 1646 this was the site of a famous battle in the English Civil War, when Lord Astley and 3000 Royalists were defeated by Parliamentarian forces. Donnington Mill is the home of a country brewery which has given its name to a well-loved local ale.
